Apache2 and Windows ME

I have recently installed Apache2 on my own personal pc running XP and now I'm trying to install it at work on a windows ME system.

I have admin access to the box and made all the necessary config changes, but when I try to start the service the system locks up. Any ideas what might be causing this? I've read some posts about problems with McAfee virus scanners, but our office pcs use a product called OfficeScan by Trendsoft. Is it likely that is the conflict which could be remedied by installing Apache 1.13 instead?

Thanks for your help.

Allowee has a spectacular aura about
could be a firewall, maybe Windows built-in firewall, not sure if that exists on ME

is there anything in the apache error log?

it could be that the firewall is using port 80 to protect your computer.
without any error messages this can't really be solved i think

No, not a firewall issue. I did notice that the documentation at php.net advises that Apache2 is not suggested for 9x systems.

I corrected the issue by installing 1.3.3x and it worked fine.

I've been running Apache2 since it's first release on Windows98, which worked fine

Hello MaxH,

Yes, I never had much luck getting Apache 2 to work on my Windows ME box, so I gave up trying and stuck with Apache 1.3+. But then again, I never REALLY tried to make it work either...
