Ge-Force FX 5600 XT 128 DDR Ultra/760 ProblemHey, ok so previously i had the "Geforce 4 4200 TI 64 DDR" graphics card, never had a problem with it once, untill i bought Far Cry, obviously the card was just too old to run this game at any sort of good looking specs, so i decided to get a new card, my friend knows quite alot about these so after consulting him on the matter, i decided to get a "Ge-Force FX 5600 XT 128 DDR Ultra/760" (gainward) GREAT im thinking - no! ive downloaded all the latest drivers for it, including the omega ones and below is my machine spec...
Windows XP Pro P4 2.4 ghz 512 ddr ram Gygabite Raid MB Think thats about all thats relavent... Heres my problem ---> my geforce 4 is out performing my new card :-( i am a clan leader of a team that play Call of Duty, now u may or may not know that clans generaly turn all there graphics in games off or to the lowest spec, making it easier to see there opponents. Even with these graphics turned down, im gettin extreme graphical Lag, u know the lag when you move the moyuse and the crosshair follows a second afterwards? im getting the same problem with farcry on the same graphic settings as i had with my old card. ive went to my card options from the desktop and turned all options to OFF eg: antialiasing, vertical sync etc.. all OFF and this has made no differance. when u enter a small room with nothing it, the card works fine lol, but when u walk through a bush on call of duty, the fps drops to 15 which is just laughable, when my old card would hold a steady 100-125 fps in the same situation. Basicly the card is not performing AT ALL, and i dont know whats wrong. Pleeeeeeease help me someone, im truely gutted! ps. Yes ive re-installed the games and that didnt help either |

You have two choices... 1. Keep the card you have and get a new motherboard that supports 8x. or... 2. Find a better 64 mb card. As far as I know, there are no existing 128 mb and above cards that are 4x. I'm not sure how the whole 4x with 8x compatibility thing works... I'm thinking that if the motherboard supported 4x and the card 8x, then the card might run at 4x, possibly causing problems. So you would be better off getting a new motherboard. __________________

Cyrix is right the video card will run at 4x but normally this will cause problems as the newer video card is meant to run with a newer motherboard. The main problem being that the card as a lot more feather on it than the motherboard does and normally at least one of the feathers will cause a small problem here or there.
