Question

Old Computer...Options?

I have a fairly up to date laptop that I use. I just aquired a 500mhz 10gig computer(from 1997) supposably with Win95 (I'm not sure cause I can't see any video output). It didn't come with a monitor and I don't have one. It has a video out socket and an s-video socket. I've tried hooking it to the TV but I get no signal (same thing with my laptop, I have to configure the laptop to be able to see it on a TV screen). Now, my questions:

Can I hook it up to my laptop without any sort of converter so that my laptop screen can be used as a monitor?
If not, what are some alternatives?
I also have a network set up. Is there anyway I could use that to help with a monitor?
It has a modem... anything there?

Well your biggest problem will be that since you can't see the computer you can't tell how the last person had it configure so without a monitor I'm not sure how you could get it to work on anything. As far as the laptop I would say no I don't think that the laptop will work as the monitor most laptop aren't meant to work that way.

Do you know any one who can loan you a monitor and if not maybe you could get a cheap one from a store around you. The only other option that MAY work and I can't promise that it will is a program called Dameware this program can install a small file on the target computer that will let you take control of it remotely I have personal never tried it on a Windows 95/98 box and it may not work. But once you have the computer setup then you wouldn't need a monitor any more as you could install a program like dameware and then use it to remotely log on to the computer and use it. But it always a good idea to keep a monitor on hand just in case something goes wrong and you can't get into the PC.
