GeForce FX5600 - FarCry keeps freezing

I'm running an AMD 1800Xp with 512 RAM and a Gainward GeForce FX5600

I also seem to have a problem with my FX5600, it keeps freezing after a couple of minutes of playing FarCry. I have tried reloading my drivers and have verified that they are correct and signed. There aren't any heat problems either.

I read in one of pcxgamer's posts on 27-Apr-2004 23:02 that he helped CRIN with a similar problem - however he helped him on MSN so I couldn't read the solution

Can you anyone help? Cheers.

Hey Jeremy I'm sorry that your having problems CRIN will be posting I hope soon about what we did to fix his problem, I hope. But in any case check for patches for Far Cry that may help you out? Is this happening with any other games or just Far Cry?

I've downloaded the latest patch from Ubisoft but it hasn't made a difference. This problem only occurs with FarCry and not with any other games....??

Does the game lock up totally or does it just start to lag really bad?

It locks up completely and I have to reboot, then after rebooting I get a message saying that my system has recovered from a error. The error report from XP says that my card failed to perform a drawing operation.

It's a Gainward FX5600 and I've used their drivers and I tried the latest drivers from the Nvidia website - same thing.

I can't figure out why it only does this with Far Cry - even when I configure the game settings on low for everything!

I am having the same problem with my system, and only on FarCry.

My spec is as follows:

Nvidia GeForce Ti4600 128mb
P4 2.533 533FSB
DDR333 1024mb

It used to freeze for ages and eventually unlock. I managed to reduce the time it locked up for by using alt+TAB to switch to something else, then back again. This freed it up quicker.
Then I installed the 1.3 patch, which changed things - it now freezes more often, but for less time. I have updated my drivers from nvida.com too. Here's what happens, in order:

It freezes
I hear a sound effect - normally a movement sound, or a gun reload sound
I lose a few of the hud items
I lose the textures on the objects near me - walls and floors, and all trees vanish, often my gun too
They all come back again, with textures
It unfreezes, play continues
Repeat

A few seconds between each event.
I also find it does it more at certain points eg on the level start 'Research' after the boat trip with the guy who's looking after you, it does it every few minutes outide, and every 5-10 seconds when in the cage.

VERY frustrating! Sorry to go on, but you can never have too much info!
