Need some exercises in C++, plus info on GUI programming.Hi, I'm new to this forum, and, in fact, relatively new to C++, so, although I'm able to do most of the basic things, I really need some pracitce... which brings me onto my first request. Does anybody know a site which has some problems or exercises in relatively basic C++ (especially classes, structures, and general OOP stuff, which I really need to practice), and preferably also solutions? I'm sure something like that exists... er, hopefully.
Secondly, pretty soon I want to start programming stuff with a GUI, and since I know that there are a huge number of ways of doing this, I was hoping somebody could advise me on where to start. Mainly I want to start with something using windows, such as win32 or wxWin, rather than something like OpenGL, but any info on this would be helpful. Thanks. |

If you are new to C++, I suggest you forget the gui untill you have an exceptionally good handle on C++. It's like having a 2 lessons in driver's ed and wanting to start driving a semi. Get the basics down first.
Just my opinion -- take it for what it's worth... __________________

there are many you could find on the internet, but as i advise every newcomer to c++ world, i'd advise you to get a good college computer science book using c++. You dont have to get a brand new book, just look online for used books which are a couple years old. Such books contain plenty of details, code and problems for you to practice with.

Before you start GUI programming, You better take 'WaltP' and 'Mechinated' advice! GUI programming will need a decent and strong knowledge in the basic C++ such as structures, pointers, classess(inheretent,polymorphism,....) and more. Well, i'm not tryng to scare you, but its worth taken to consideration before you jump to GUI. Without basic, you'll be lost in the GUI world. From my own experience, only after learning c++ for 2+ year in college, I tried to learn GUI programming with Borland OWL, which I find really hard since I lack the knowlegde of classess,pointers.... Then I learned QT for Linux, and now currently into MSVC++ MFC. __________________
