CD Drive doesnt recognize my CD's

My CD drive for some reason can no longer read my CD's. When I put a CD in it it just sits there and does nothing. If I click on the drive icon it tells me to insert a disc. I tried turing off my computer and restarting it, but it didnt fix it. If I go to the properties, it says "This device is working properly.", but thats a lie. Any help would be great.

If you need any more info, I will try and help out as best I can.

jrobbio will become famous soon enough
Are you using Windows? if so what version?

One option is to remove the CD drive from your system info manually and allow the computer to "detect" it again. Sometimes the information gets screwed when there's one too many crash or because it feels like it.

Hopefully it isn't a physical fault, but giving the laser a quick clean with a cleaning disk etc. doesn't hurt your effort either.

I am running Windows XP: Home Edition

As for removing it from my system info, how do I do that?

I'm having the exact same problem, but uninstalling then letting windows find it and install it didn't work. how do you clean the laser? When I put a cd in, it just sits there.
