Last night I was checking out some mods for this board (just out of curiosity) and found one which disturbed me:

PM Viewers (for admins)...

Who comes out with these ...and WHY?

Do you mean a mod that allows admins to view PMs...

I go by the assumption that nothing posted anything on any Internet board is private - this and every other board is privately owned and the sysops can do what ever they like with the data.

whaddya know, they have one for phpBB too

i think anything PRIVATE should stay that way... it simply disturbs me

I think that I agree with admins being able to view others data. It’s much like your own house your liable for anything that takes place in it. and same goes for the board so I would think that an admin would have the right to know what is going on especially if what ever may be going on could possibly get him in trouble

i disagree...

By definition, anything PRIVATE should remain private. Otherwise call it something else. How can an administrator be responsible for the contents in a private message?

I have no intention of 'viewing', screening any PRIVATE messages on this board (unless it's my own of course ). i think it's seriously unethical, besides, it goes against the privacy policy of this site, not to mention that there are a million other things I could do with my time...

And if the administrators claim that they're doing so only in the interest of whatever, then they should disable it entirely and not elect themselves 'protectors of the world'
