Unhappy

my cyrix really is on fire

My good ol' Cyrix m-2 just fried, if I'm not mistaken. My computer wouldn't start up for some strange reason a few days ago (there was power going through everything but the monitor. The computer wouldn't boot up.) so I checked all the connections like the video card and the ram, tried it again, and the same results. I put in an older (yes, more ancient than my current artifact) pentium 1 in and slowly, it worked. I was sure the problem was my Cyrix. I put the Cyrix back in and it made 2 short beeps, a pause, then 8 beeps in a row. Besides these beeps, it had the same symptoms (no bootup, no display).
I'm wondering what these beeps mean. Can anyone help??

I love the title of your post. It cracked me up.

The beeps are from your bios and is trying to tell you the problem. These beeps are a result of problems that are so serious that the computer can not function enough to display a problem. Your motherboard documentation (which you probably don't have) should tell you what these beeps mean. If you know the manufacturer of your motherboard you may be able to find these on-line.

However, I am sure that if you found it, it would tell you that your problem is non-existent or faulty CPU.

Cyrix, man. How old is that thing?!? Well, at least you got good use out of it.

If it really "fried", you would have experienced an unmistakable smell. So do you love the smell of fried silicon in the morning?

Maybe it just simmered... Well, I know the mobo is the model tx98-3d by Zida technologies. I'm still looking for the manual/documentation though. Maybe I can find out what those miserable beeps are. Poor thing. It never harmed anyone.
