Big streaming problemOK I see streaming media has been somewhat covered in this forum before. I am looking for some advice here.
I have a server PC which is running Windows Server 2003, it is hosting 1 domain. Now this Server and my personal PC are both behind a router. My connection is DSL. So... When Users access my downloads page and try to download my media it takes forever - I mean forever for anything to open or for people to save. I tried to ask people to 'save as' as opposed to opening the media and play it off the site. But the time it takes to open even a 2 min mp3 file is excruciatingly painful. Not only that, but when people are tryin to download from my Server PC, my internet connection on my personal PC drops out through the floor and it takes me forever to load even the simplest of website pages. Does anyone know of any "tricks or tips" that I could implement to speed up not only access for my Users, but not impede my Personal PC's performance? ThanX D! ![]() |

Hello Dmonix,
Have you investigated your DSL settings? Can you FTP large files? I had such an issue just recently... __________________

What is you provider's upstream speed? Is it Telus' 1.5M/512k service? You should also look at your server software to put limits on the number of users who can download at a time and the amount of bandwidth they are assigned.

Well I dabbled into the manager on Server 2003 and my bandwidth settings are wide open. I do not think the issues is too many people coming to my site and downloading at once. I haven't checked into my router settings, thats next.
Thanx for the notes... ![]() |
