This is a broader thing then just HTML, guestbooks require a script to run it. This script is what people use to sign your guestbook. These scripts can be found on the Internet for free. If you download one and use it you can also look through the code and see how they are written and how they work. You will also need to make sure that your web host supports the type of script you want to use. Some of the favorite script to use would be written in Perl or PHP and I personal would suggest PHP, Perl is nice but can be a pain sometimes. I'm not totally sure this is what you’re asking. So if this isn't what you need to know just let me know.

You will require some sort of a script to run these. Are you using a free webhost or a paid one?

JdS will become famous soon enough
I tried figuring out their homepage service and I don't see any reference to server-side scripting support of any kind so I think your only option for the moment is to seek either
  • a new web hosting provider (that offers PHP or similar server-side scripting support), so you can write your own.
  • a free tagboard / guestbook service that you can perhaps <frame> (or <iframe>) inside your existing web or homepage.
