Directory disappeared in Win XP NTFS System

I have a directory with a large number of subdirectories and files. When I clicked the directory it is possible that I moved my mouse accidentally and the directory name moved as a sub directory in the next directory on the same original level. However, this directory with the same name has no files or subdirectories. Chkdsk does not detect an error. When I use Disk Detective I see that the files are still listed in their original location, but there is no master directory under which they would be found.

How do I get the original directory back so I can view my files?

have you stoped your "system revivification" on your pc .if nobody gives you an advice.use it to resume your system to the original state.
Incidentally, disk detective only search your files on your hard disk .files did not be moved .what is really changed is that there is a different route to find the files.

I di have system restore active, however, the directory was still empty and access was denied. PC Inspector, however, goes around the Windows environment and directly reads the disk at he lowest level. It found all the files in their original directory which Windows refused to show. I copied everything to a new directoy, deleted the original directory in safe mode DOS, recreated the original directory and copied the files back to their original spot. The whole process was complex and a pain. Furthermore I am not sure I reclaimed the 3GB the original files used.
