hey i was thinking that putting a search option in forums would be a great idea for people who need help really fast and if their concerns/questions have already been discussed...

Search functions for forums are always a plus to have. A lot of questions have already baeen answered, and there is no reason to start a new thread on it, which is why most of the time forums have search engines

But if I'm not mistaken we have one of the best types of search engines. If your searching for a problem then most people start on Google or one of the other search engines. Google I think is one of the most popular since Google indexes this site then most of the threads here will be search from there. At least I think that the way it works. But in any case if I search Geforce FX 5600 problems on Google I get this and there we are fourth from the top. This in my option works great as we get new guest all the time from this and we don't have to use as much bandwidth this way.

Besides even if the question has been asked before ask again I'm not to into getting upset if people post the same question twice that's what at least for me makes this site better than the rest. If I go to most any other site out there and post a question that has been asked already it's either deleted or flamed and that's just stupid it just seems to take away from the personal touch that I think most forums need more of. Besides this is a discuss board and is here for people to discuss topics even if it been asked before. Well that just how I feel and other may feel may feel differently but I like it that's why after 2 years I'm still here and not on other boards much.

admin will become famous soon enough
The irony of this thread is that this very subject has been discussed quite a few times before already ... but as usual, we welcome your feedback and suggestions.

Maybe I am not clear what you mean by "putting a search option in forums" but we have options here that allow you to:
  • Search the entire SITE by clicking on the Search Link right at the top of every page.
  • Search just one particular FORUM by visiting the FORUM page e.g. www.gidforums.com/f-18.html and clicking on the Search this forum link (top-right, next to the "ForumTools" link).
  • Search a THREAD by viewing any thread and clicking on the Search this Thread link (again, top-right, in between the "Thread Tools" and "Rate Thread" links).

However SEARCH on this site is expected to change VERY SOON. I am currently working on my home-grown search engine and once I am able to upload the entire 'application', the switch from using Google (as the SITE Search Engine) will be made.
