Nvidia FX 5600XT 256Mb or 5900 XT 128Mb???

Hi,

I am just about to buy a new computer in the UK, AMD 3200+ 512Mb RAM, and the salesman tried to get me to sign up to a 5600XT with 256Mb RAM. I can get the 5900XT for almost the same amount of cash, but this only has 128Mb of RAM. Don't really want to go the whole hog and get 5950 Ultra as this is extra £150.

Judging by the number of misgivings re this card on this forum, I thought it prudent to ask experts thought...?

Thanks - any comments welcome!

Si

This is really a personal call I have a Geforce FX 5600 and I have never had one problem with it. But as you can see other have had big problem with theirs. I know that over all the 5900's got better reviews. But I personally think that as long as you stay away from the 5200's you should be fine. But like I said it really a personal call. Although the 5900 even if it only has 128MB Ram is newer than the 5600 and does have some advantages.

lol hes probably just trying to get rid of it. 256mb wont make any difference at resolutions below something like 1600x1200, and u couldnt play most games at resolutions like that on a 5600xt anyway.
