Just wanted to know- if i was chatting to someone on a chat-room would I be avalible to accsess thier Ip address?

I am pretty sure you can view any IP address that is connected to you.

Simple network traces can figure it out rather easy. If you are inside of a chat room, depending on the way it is set up, you should be able to view the IP address of someone when he/she says something in the chat.

How would this be done?

Are you using a web based chat room or a messenger type of application? You could try netstat -a from a DOS prompt but I don't know if it'll give you the other party's ip address.

Im using web based chat.

Your network connections will only be to the webserver...so I don't think you could.

Do a search for network packet sniffers on google. I used to have one but I forgot the name of it. It will basically tell you all of the IP addresses and messages inside a chat, aim, msn, ect.

Also cant find out where someone lives by thier IP Address can you?

You can find out where their access point (ISP) is. But that doesn't mean they live there.
