RAW File System on a CD Problem

hey guys, this is a strange question, but maybe someone out there can answer it

ok, i burned a cd with Nero using a .cue file, the original "image" was a .bin file, so i opened the .cue file in nero and burned it. now, heres the problem, when i went to go see if the cd worked, it said it was not compadible with windows. being curious, i check the propertys of the disc and it ended up saying "file system: RAW" now, i know its suposted to say "file system: CDFS"

so i guess my question is, how can i make the cd come out with the CDFS file system and make windows read the disc

thanks everyone, hope i get the problem solved

Sorry it took so long for me to respond to this post. I will need a little more information. Was the original image in a .bin format? The reason I'm asking is that to my knowledge there isn't any such thing as a RAW file system, RAW means no file system. If you could give me a little more information. I'm sorry that I can't be of more help.

Whenever I screw up a floppy disk, which is regularly, I get this error. The filesystem must be completely corrupted, so that Windows is forced to say there is none. All your data *may* be there, but there is no file listing, just the raw data there instead.

.cue file? From filext.com:
Quote:
CDRWin Description File for a CD-Image - Sometimes paired with a .BIN file containing the CD image.
. Apparantly the .cue file holds track layout information, and .bin the actual data. I'm unsure of Nero's support for this, what version do you have?

ok, the original image was in a ".bin" file pcxgamer, and Garth Farley, im using nero version 6.3, it supports it. also, im almost sure that it is something with the .bin file because i did some research on the .cue files and mine should work like a charm. i've made a few disc's using the .bin and .cue process in nero, i checked what a .cue file from a cd that works looked like and the one that was causeing problems, there both similar, with spacing and everything, just the file name and such are different, but the layout is exactly the same. im almost sure that the .bin image is just corrupt, but thats ok, its just a strang problem i felt i should bring up. never heard of it before. thanks guys.

If Windows cannot read a disk, i.e. if it does not read a supported file system from it, then the disk is declated as being RAW. So no information about the files, their positions on the disk or anything is accessable to, not only windows, but anything! It's practically impossible to salvage anything from this - how can we distinguish one file from another?

It's evidently your burning that's not going correctly. Your version of Nero *should* support these files. Would the .bin file be corrupt. You can check for this by reading some stuff I found:

RAW File Format CD

Actually , RAW format is only in Win 2003 Server.
In Win2000 it is Unknown File System.
In win 98 it is CDFS.

what's these Windows behaviours!!!

RAW file system

hi,
actually i've disc which is supposed to be VCD.The 1st disc of the movie is working properly in my pc,but the 2nd one is not read, win xp shows that it has "RAW file sytem" whereas Win98 shows that its has a "CDFS file system",why's that anyway? When I tried the same disc in a VCD player,it was being played, why's that again? Well, then I cameto know using some softwares, that the disc had 3 tracks burnt on it in a single session, then using a software "FireBurner" I was able to load the 3 tracks,n saved the longest track as .iso file, still the .iso file was not being read by "MagicISO".
If the disc is not supposed to be read, then even its tracks shudnt be read by the pc i guess. wat is happening? please help!!

Question

RAW Hide

hi just a quick note on my experience of RAW, i recently had a hd failure, and after rebooting it shows as raw and windows claims the drive is not formatted, now the puzzling bit, if i boot with a win 98 floppy and change (cd D to the drive i can see all my data, intact, and can even copy it to another detination. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE ? If windows is correct in saying it isnt formatted (no partition defined) my head aches thinking about it and if anyone can tell me how to get it back to either FAT32 or NTFS WITHOUT loosing any of the data i would be glad to hear how....... :-(

Well jacko, the filesystem must be FAT32 for a floppy to see it. You could try a scandisk & see if it corrects any filesystem errors, but if you can copy across files intact, I suggest you back them all up first.

Which windows are you using?
