I am trying to access an apache webserver running on my solaris server. I am trying to do this from a browser running on the local server itself. It works when I disable authentication but when there is auth enabled for a page, it denies access from the localhost but works from remote browsers. Is there a server directive that I can add or change that will allow me to access this page on my local webserver from the server itself (local host)?

can you list your ALLOW/DENY rules?
do you have a firewall installed on your server?
