approx. down-load timesI am working on a distance learning site that incorporates several quicktime movie files for students to view before they take assignments. Rather than streaming video, I have chosen to embed these video files, allowing the students to save them to their hard drives and view repeatedly while working on the assignment.
Obviously, I am trying to anticipate the long[er] download times associated with dial-up access ... is there anyway of giving an approximate download time for students to understand they may want to down-load these files in advance? ie: 60.6 MB @ 56kbs = 6 hrs download time Or something like that ... [geez, just 2 weeks with a cable connection and I have no idea what 56k means for downloads ...] I can appreciate that d/load times are subject to many outside influences, but would still like your comments, or even some kind of chart to help forcast expected down-load times. thanks, |

i think what is usually done is just pure maths. they define the usual speed either 28.8k or 56k and then just use a constant to divide the filesize by.
don't ask me to explain that.... who remembers this stuff anyway __________________
