Web Upload Test

Hello all.

I am hoping that I can get some people to stress test something that I have been working on. I am writing a C++ html/cgi library that I have added a file upload feature to. Follow these instructions to test it:
  • Go to www.dbcservices.com
  • Select the upload feature
  • Fill in the form, selecting a small (<2Meg) unimportant file to upload.
  • Wait at most 15 seconds and go to the download section of the site.
  • Find your file and download it.
  • See if the file is the same
This is a public site, so your files are (read) accessible by anyone, so do NOT upload sensitive files. In addition, there is a time limit of 30 minutes to 2 hours for the file to stay on the server, so make sure to try to download your file within this limit.

What I am looking for is:
  • Were you able to upload a file?
  • When you download is it still the same? Particularly binary (exe) files.
  • Is the site responsive? I am hoping that it is relatively quick.
  • The form/layout is not spectacular, but is there anything that is particularly ugly or broken?

I really appreciate anyones help with this. Please resond here with any issues or use the web contact at the site. The more use this gets, the better, so I would be thrilled to get multiple tries.

Cheers,
d

Were you able to upload a file?

File Upload Success! (I think...)

You are Bobby.
You uploaded a file named VettesAteBay.JPG.
That is stored on the server at /tmp/41184676.1.
That will ultimately be saved as img.JPG.
It is 751558 bytes in length
That has the following description: Testing Image File
It will be displayed in blue colored text.
It will live for 1-1/2 Hours on this server.

When you download is it still the same? Particularly binary (exe) files.
- File showed up on the download page (underneath the current files) after I waited 5 seconds. Then I clicked on the file, saw a 404 error. Weird... Then I clicked on the download page, and it didn't show my file anymore.

Is the site responsive? I am hoping that it is relatively quick.
- Seems like it owns

The form/layout is not spectacular, but is there anything that is particularly ugly or broken?
- Maybe you color links? Add some CSS to 'em.

Here are my test results:

File Upload Summary

File Upload Success! (I think...)

You are gidtest.
You uploaded a file named gf100txv.zip.
That is stored on the server at /tmp/41184676.1.
That will ultimately be saved as gidtestfile.zip.
It is 554452 bytes in length
That has the following description: LAN Card driver
It will be displayed in green colored text.
It will live for 30 Minutes on this server.

I went to the download page and downloaded the file (which was named and listed correctly, i.e. gidtestfile.zip).

Just tried to open the file I downloaded and everything seems to be working alright! Good stuff...

Sorry, I forgot to mention about the other stuff you were asking about: site speed - just fast enough. Download was also fast for me. Design of the web page I can't comment on since I like pages that are simple and straightforward usually, so I like your pages the way it is.

Tried twice (forgot file extension the first time), neither file has appeared on the download page ... yet (been waiting a while though!)

Thanks to all of you for trying this. It definitely needs some work, but I wanted to get an idea of how much.

Bobby, your error is the strangest? I am not sure what happened there.
Also, I am really really new at this web stuff. Can you explain what you mean by color links? Are you saying to change the color of the links? Also, I have avoided CSS on this as I didn't want to learn something else at this time (my brain is full - I'd have to forget my childhood ). Any further explanation on this would be helpful.

Gardolas, I know why your files never showed up. The back-end server died on me sometime between yours and JDS's post. This is what I was afraid would happen.

Anyway, I will repost when I get some fixes made and would really, really appreciate some more trials.

Thanks guys,
d

I am talking about the links on the left side. They are just plain...

Round 2

Hi. I have made several changes plus added better debugging tools for this test. I would appreciate it if you all could give it a whirl again.

This is the site: http://www.dbcservices.com

The procedure is the same as above. However, some additional things I would like to know are:
  • What browser are you using?
  • Try some image/html files that would normally open as inline and see if they are downloaded as attachments

Thanks a million. It is great to be able to test things like this here.

Using Firefox 0.8, site seemed responsive enough! Had to download image, rather than it opening in the browser, all seemed to work well! Nice One!
