Question

what's next for pc power?

Ever wonder about the market of pc's?
I built my first pc six yrs ago 350 cpu Asus 64 ram voodoo video card 16mb 5gig hard drive etc.....

next I built this current pc 1.0 cpu tbird 60gig hard drive zip drive gforce fx 5600 256mb ddr etc....

As I watch the pc chages over the yrs & see how after loading programs / games on my pc, I see the back ground flooded with all these programs running without my knowledge until I run msconfig from the start / run display.

I begin to understand why you need a 3.5 cpu and 100 gig hard drive & these mass demanding video / sound cards. because of all this stuff running on my pc all at once. BUT YOU CAN'T TELL ME I NEED A OVER EXCESSIVE CPU OR WHATEVER TO RUN A SINGLE GAME.

Need a strong video & sound card for games that demand the extra detail. like Battlefield vietnam. I know that but guys there is a limit.
Anyone remember the Atari 2600 game system? I HAVE TWO WITH OVER 185 ORIGINAL GAMES. I still play them from time to time. Remember how you could change the game number 1 to game 119? this changed the way the game played. Strange we don't have pc / xbox games that do that? When you buy a xbox game you don't need a batch of patches updates or new equipment just to be able to play the game. I bought BF Vietnam & had to buy a new video card $130.00 just to play it?

All I am saying, is that its somthing to think about.

I'm actually old enough to remember my 2600 I also still have it in my living room right beside my PS and PS2. You should see some of the looks I get when people see that. Now back to the topic I will agree that I'm sure to some degree that the gaming industry and hardware industry have a little back scratching going on. But I would say that is at a minimum as the consumer has a lot to do with the audio and video demands of games. Has we progress into bigger and better games they become more needed. Although it's little funny that the old DOS games and console game could have Hugh environments mainly because of the level of detail. After the consumer demanded 3D environments it had to be smaller as the cards of the time couldn't handle big 3D environments. But has of late people have been demanding bigger and bigger worlds this is one of the reasons why MMORPG took off like they did. As people demand bigger worlds and more game play for the buck. The games will continue to become bigger and more CPU needed.

I like your explaination & the way you think. I will also put my Atari in the living room, next to my Xbox and see what reactions I get too.
Keep in touch.

AND MAY THE BLOOD KEEP FLOWING ON BF42 & BF VIETNAM.
