[Developer Tool] FireFox 0.8 Install Help for DevelopersFor about 8 months now I have been using Mozilla. Before it was FireBird, now it is FireFox that I use. The first day I started using it I just thought I died and went to heaven. I went through an entire day without ONE CRASH. I can't remember the last time I did that in Internet Explorer.
I have made four of my friends install FireBird (Now named FireFox) in addition to their IE browser. Some people are rather skeptical about installing these types of programs just because they don't want to install something that they either do not understand, or believe they do not need. Don't say that you do not need Mozilla FireFox 0.8 until you install it, and play around with it for a few hours. Give it a chance, because every person I have given it to have said that it is better than IE, and they will never go back. Note: Those who have a mouse that has a scroll wheel between the two left/right mouse click buttons, if you click on a link using the scroll wheel, you will open a link inside of a new 'Tab'. Let’s say that you just visited Outfront and you notice that there are 3 new posts in Advanced Web Development, and of course you want to check them out. All you do is click the three links using the scroll wheel, and it will open all of the links in a new tab. Then you can click in the tab when you want to view it, and close the tab by click on the tab (on the top) with the scroll wheel button, OR, click on the red X in the right towards the top. Not the X that is in the very top-right corner, but the one below that which is Red. Below is what a Developer would want to use for their FireFox browser. Trust me, you will love this when you are finished. Installing FireFox 0.8 First off, you will need to download & run Mozilla FireFox 0.8 setup. (Download the file and double click it, or open it after the download completes in order to install it). Remember folks, this program is not something as integrated with Windows as Internet Explorer is. Meaning, you can easily un-install FireFox if you do not like it. After you install FireFox, you will need to install two plug-ins (Mozilla calls them extensions). Installing Extensions: Web Developer The first extensions is named Web Developer. Quote:
Installation: To install this extension, simply open FireFox, and copy/paste this URL inside the address bar. http://downloads.mozdev.org/webdevel...bdeveloper.xpi .xpi files are extensions associated with FireFox only. Make sure you do this inside of FireFox. What will happen is FireFox's awesome download manager, will actually manage the download. After it is complete, it will ask you if you wish to install it. Click 'Yes' to install it. Then you will need to close the browser, and open it back up again to see the extension working. You will notice a simple little menu below the links on the top. Trust me folks, this is awesome! Installing Extensions: All-in-One Gestures The second extension that I use almost every day, is the All-in-One Gestures Quote:
Installation: To install this extension, simply open FireFox, and copy/paste this URL inside the address bar. http://perso.wanadoo.fr/marc.boullet...gestlatest.xpi .xpi files are extensions associated with FireFox only. Make sure you do this inside of FireFox. What will happen is FireFox's awesome download manager, will actually manage the download. After it is complete, it will ask you if you wish to install it. Click 'Yes' to install it. Then you will need to close the browser, and open it back up again to see the extension working. You will notice a red line when you hold down the right-click button on the mouse, and move it around. You will be able to configure the options for the gestures by going to the Extensions Manager found in Tools>Options>Extensions>All-in-One Gestures>Options. __________________

Nice links Bobby.
I've been using Firefox for a while now and find it faster, cleaner and easier on the eye than its big brother mozilla. I don't even have mention its benefits over IE. I like the integrated search engine feature. I currently have google, dictionary.com, slashdot and a few more installed. See http://mycroft.mozdev.org/download.html for more. |
