Just a short update I'm still testing the game on my system but I haven't had it crash on me yet. The only thing I have done is installed the game and didn't change a thing. No patch and haven't twead anything.

there must be a very odd conflict on system to cause these unexpected crashes... i just can't figure out what exactly would crash the entire system (rather than just the game itself).
I'm starting to think that colonization is actually compatible with every computer equipped with xp... except for mine of course. |

I agree but as for Windows XP I'm not sure why it hasn't crashed yet. I do remember that it use to crash on my XP system but I was finally able to get it to work, the only thing I can thing of is maybe when trying to get the game to work the first time I used some kind of registry hack that may not have been uninstalled when I uninstalled the game and that why it working ok on my system. But my laptop has a new XP installed on it and the game has never been installed on it so I'm going to load it on that and see what happens. Then I can start back a step one on getting it to run again and see how I did it before. I'm sorry this is taking so long.

This isn't a waste of time; At least not for me I'm a big gamer I know I spent more than 60 or 70 hours a week playing games. But I also know how I would feel if I couldn't get my older games running those are some of my favorite games to play. I just can't forget about a game once it a few years old I even have a 486 and a win 98 PC's at my house just incase I can't get it to run on my big PC. But I don't want anyone to have to go through not being able to play there favorite games and if the companies that release these games won't help then I will.

I was just letting you know that I haven't forgotten about you. I have been running the game on my laptop but I'm unable to get it to crash. Do you happen to know if your laptop is use the FAT32 File system or the NTFS File system?

I have no clue. I did, actually, install the windows XP Service Pack V2, and it showed some success, until I opened MS word which caused my system to crash after a few minutes of simultaneous running.
In the end, I had to remove the service pack because it was playing havoc on my offline active server content. In the end, I must have a serious conflict between my xp platform and all games in general. I just bought sim city 4 and I can't play it either because of the very same problem -- the computer turns itself off after several minutes of play. |

Well that changes things Sim City 4 should run fine. This is a laptop right? If so then maybe you should look and see if you can first check the file system do this by going to my computer and then right clicking or the drive and going to properties it should tell you somewhere what file system you have FAT32 or NTFS. You will also want to check and make sure that the PC isn't over heating.

Hey there -- is anyone checking this thread still?
Anyways, I installed Colonization on my XP machine and played it last night for a few hours. I installed the win95 patch and I set the compatibility stuff before i started playing. Everything was going fine for awhile, but now I'm getting an error that kicks me out of the game. I even go back to older saved games and it still kicks me out at the end of my turn. Here it is: COLONIZE caused a General Protection Fault in module COLONIZE.EXE at 0005:B7FE. Any help would be appreciated!! |

Not sure about this problem have you tried the No CD patch as well? I will do a little research on this problem and see what I can come up with.
