Apache Make Fails

Hi There,

I am trying to compile apache 1.3.29 with php 4.3.4, mod_ssl, openssl....it keeps bombing out on the 'make' with the following output:

<=== src/modules/ssl
===> src/modules/php4
make[4]: *** No rule to make target `all'. Stop.
make[3]: *** [all] Error 1
make[2]: *** [subdirs] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/apache_1.3.29/src'
make[1]: *** [build-std] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/apache_1.3.29'
make: *** [build] Error 2

Am I being silly?

Thanks,

Allowee has a spectacular aura about
do you use `make all` or just `make`?

I have never ever had the need to recompile apache, but I know that in most cases `make` does enough and works

I did just 'make'

Here is my configure command (if of any use):

./configure --enable-module=ssl --activate-module=src/modules/php4/libphp4.a --enable-module=php4 --prefix=/usr/local/apache --enable-shared=ssl

Prior to running configure I did this:

SSL_BASE=./openssl

I had no errors with the configure command.....

I'm stumped. I have managed to compile Mysql, php, lib png, jpeg, openssl and free type and part way through mod_ssl (as making tls aware server)

Thanks,

It appears that it is dropping out at the php compilation point. Just out of curiosity, if you redo your configure without enabling the php module does it compile? I know that you want php, but this will help locate your trouble.

I am not sure what to do about it, can you give more of your error listing when failing on compile? It almost looks like there is no makefile in the php subdirectory. I am not 100% familiar with how you do this full build, but do you put the source tree of php in the apache tree? If so, are there any compatibility problems between apache 1.3.29 and php 4.3.4?

I wasn't aware of any specific requirements for the install. I will try using an earlier version of PHP and see what happens. I am not fussed about versioning as the server is not for production - only dev.

I'll let you know what happens (it'll take a while as the machine is a 100mhz pentium with 32mb ram! It compiled Mysql ok so it should be alright with this other stuff.

Thanks again,
Vince
