1. What version of Suse Linux? Exactly? In particular, is it a 32-bit distribution or a 64?

2. How did you install ns2.31? From ns-allinone-2.31.tar.gz or what?

3. Is there any particular reason why you are not trying the most recent version of ns2?

4. Have you looked at other threads on this board where people solved problems with nam not being installed when ns was installed?

Some examples: http://www.gidforums.com/t-20708.html and http://www.gidforums.com/t-20442.html

There are others.

As far as I can remember, none of these covers anything about Suse, but the problems may (or, maybe, not) have solutions that may be applicable to your problem.

Regardless of the distribution, I think it is pretty near impossible to help you learn how to solve your problem unless you give more information.

And, in particular, try following advice given to previous posters:

For example during the install procedure if "make nam" failed, there would have been a message to that effect. Of course that would have scrolled off of the screen some 20,000 or so lines into the procedure, and you wouldn't have seen it.

So, if you have any further problems, you can try something like:

Code:
./install >install.log 2>& 1

This redirects all output from the install script to a file that you can inspect later. To see the progress of the install script, then after starting "./install" you can open another terminal window and navigate to the ns-allinone-xxx directory and enter
Code:
tail -f install.log

(When it is finished, hit Ctrl-C in the window showing the tail.)

1. In Linux, executable files are not identified by a name "something.exe" In particular, for the ns installation, the executable that you are looking for will be called nam, not nam.exe

2. What bin folder are you talking about? There are lots of bin folders on most Linux installations. Be very explicit when you are asking for help. I respectfully suggest that you not expect us to make a guess as to where you are looking (or to guess anything else about your efforts).

Look at the output of the install.log file that I recommend above. There should be some lines like the following:
Code:
============================================================ * Build nam-1.13 ============================================================ checking for gcc... gcc . . .

What does it say after that? Look in some of the previous threads about advice as to how to build nam.

Disclaimer: I don't have access to workstations with any kind of Suse installations, and I don't expect to. I may not be able to give explicit instructions to help you, but I will try. Maybe others here can help if they have enough information from you.

Regards,

Dave
