PC doesnt turn on

I've recently built my own PC and after 4 months of it working fine its suddenly died on me, completely as I was watching a DVD! I press the power button and nothing happens...i have double checked the power cables, tried different PSU and even checked the button on the back of the PSU!

I have a P4 3.06Mhz
Asus P4S533-MX (Socket 478 ) Micro ATX Motherboard (MB-047-AS)
512MB DDR Ram

new PSU and fans have been installed since the crash.
I've tried different PSU, fans, CMOS battery
Have also removed from Case to see if something was shorting motherboard
and have tried to boot using a screwdriver over the power switch connector, still no luck.

Any ideas what it could be?

Is there any more info u can give us? From what uv said it sounds like a motherboard problem of some sort, try a different board.

Ok this is a strange problem. When you checked the power cables did you use the same ones or new ones? Also check and make sure that the outlet on the wall that you using to plug the computer into isn't having problems. Last thing I would suggest is check each component of the computer out by either taking it to some one or if you have an extra computer. Let me know if you have done any of this or if any of this helps.

I've tried several power cables and two known working PSU's. Also put new IDE cables in and checked the power switch cable is in right place!
There are no jumper settings that i can find on the motherboard apart from USB so it cant be anything like that, well not that i can think anyway!!

Cant be the CPU as it would boot and beep at me like mad right?

i know what you mean, i have never come accross something like this before in all my years of fixing computer problems.

What about the wall outlet is it possible that may be the problem? And have you tested your other components?

I've tried it in 3 different wall sockets and tried it with just the minimal components needed inside

i've also tried my components in another PC and that machine turns on

I would think if it were the CPU it would beep your right about that. It looks like it's the motherboard maybe it shorted out or is damaged. Have you tried the new motherboard in the other computer?

Ok I may have to take back that CPU part. I think I remember working on a system I while back that had a bad CPU and it would turn on. Thats it no beeps or anything just would turn on. So you may want to test your CPU after all just to make sure.

I will try my CPU in a different machine, but like we discussed previously the PC would still turn on without a CPU inside.

There is power getting to the Motherboard as the light comes on, i just dont understand it at all

could it be bad memory? or would it still boot without memory inside?
