Need legal advice - TOXIC spill

Hi,

I have been unfairly dismissed from my place of work. I am in the print industry, Manchester, England, United Kingdom. I have been working there for over 2 years.

They were breaking C.O.S.H.H. (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations, and I pointed it out to the manager. There is a very serious TOXIC chemical spill underneath the Ink Press Printers - they go back before World War II. They use TOXIC chemicals mainly to remove the overflow of ink from the rollers as the machine is printing documents.

This spill has been there for a long time and the 'so called' Health & Safety officer said they was nothing they could do about it. I threatened them with reporting it myself to the British Government Environmental Health, also the European Union Environmental Health.

He did not seem to happy about it. They are British and do not appreciate Foreign intervention. They are still struggling to go Decimal!

Also, the management did not provide me with adequate protective clothing. I had to but my own. I work with very dangerous chemicals:

Hot Melt Adhesive,
Laser printer fumes (high temp, waste toner dust),
Digital press fumes (silicon oil, toner dust, cleaning Alcohol (100%),
High Voltage)
Very dirty engines.
Toxic, Corrosive, Dangerous to the Environment, Irritant Chemicals.

Laser printing does generate radioactive dust. The Digital Press particle l.e.d.
could produce what I think is inside a microchip. Thin layers of silicon sheets with metal wiring inside. Similar to an electronic diagram. You could use metal particles instead of toner with silicon oil.

On print, on certain types of thick gloss paper, the print is slightly raised and very water resistant. I fell into water once while sailing, and I had 3 twenty notes in my pocket. I let them dry, the print was fine.

Therefore I was the only person in the factory wearing protective clothing! I had a bright blue paper suit, breathing mask, goggles. The management did not provide protective clothing for anybody.

It was not long before they were just looking for an excuse to get rid of me. I am trying to call on an Industrial Tribunal, so I need legal advice. In the United Kingdom we see a Solicitor or Barrister. I think in America you see a Laywer.

A good website or legal authority would be nice.

Cheers,

Juned

Then I'd recommend talking to a Solicitor or Barrister.

Do you have an agency that handles occupational safety and health matters? We have OSHA in the States and take matters like this very seriously.
