Post beeps..hheellp

I get beeps hi,low,hi,low continuously with no boot up/black screen. Anyone know what this is? Windows XP-Pro/2x 256 pc3200.
If I turn off power a few times and restart, it eventually catches and boots. Weird
I heard an almost silent short 6 beep post a couple times too.

This sounds like a pretty serious hardware problem that you should probably get fixed as soon as you can. Your power supply may be going out, your memory or cpu may not be well seated or may be going bad. The beeps are the bios telling you that something is so seriously wrong that it can't even display anything. If you have your users manual, it should tell you what the different number of beeps are trying to tell you, such as a memory problem, cpu problem, etc. This will help you in diagnosing your problem.

Good luck,
d

Ya,I'm thinking power supply. I can hear it fluccuate and drag down as programs are demanding power. If it was ram o something else ,,,why would it boot after trying the switch and then stay running?

I had an almost identical problem two weeks ago, no boot, 1 long and 2 short beeps (no video) and a black screen. Sometimes the video info would appear (mx440 etc.. driver..), sometimes not. A few times the memory test started and locked half way through. I removed the video card, unclipped the fan and cleaned out all the crap that had built up around the GPU. Booted first time, and no problems since. Hope you get sorted.

Fag smoke constantly blown onto pc components is bad news, as a buildup of deposits containing carbon can cause shorts and reduced voltages. Keep it clean!
