Yahoo Email Addresses

Since yesterday, all emails sent to Yahoo (by this web site) are being rejected. As such, I have no choice but to reject new registrations using Yahoo email addresses.

If you are an existing member and you are using your Yahoo email address to receive emails from this web site, please update your account with a new / alternate email address as soon as possible or risk having your account temporarily deactivated. You may want to use Gmail (preferred) or Hotmail/Live.

Thank you.

Re: Yahoo Email Addresses

An update to inform you what I have been doing to get this issue resolved:

Within Yahoo's SMTP error messages, I was referred to a URL with a bit more details: see this 421-ts03 page. Inside that web page, I was informed that I could use an on-line form to appeal this decision, which I did. That was over 48 hours ago.

I received an automated reply simply stating (again) what I had already read in that web page (421-ts03) and (they had copied into their reply) the data that I had submitted through that web form.

Not satisfied, I replied again insisting that I don't send bulk mail to anyone and that I would like them to review my case. Also, I indicated that GIDForums will no longer accept new registrations submitted with Yahoo email addresses until this issue is resolved.

Then earlier today, I get a (second) reply... but this time they provided me with a long list of questions to answer. I was shocked and frustrated, because the questions were EXACTLY the same questions as the ones in the web form that I had already filled in 2 days ago! The irony is that these questions and MY answers still appear at the bottom of the emails (from their first reply)!

Just as I was arguing with myself to be patient and to just do what they want me to do, Google's Alert service sent me a nice URL to read about what ails Yahoo these days: Yahoo to slash workforce as sales drop.

I particularly like what Yahoo's new CEO had to say about Yahoo and the people who work there:

Re: Yahoo Email Addresses

Yahoo has been struggling for years. They didn't sell out to potential buyers because they thought their stock was worth more than the offers. It's funny how the stock market reflects the "perception of value", rather than the idealized feelings of the company itself.

I've been struggling for years about whether I should keep my Yahoo account or not. My "main" email is via Gmail but I keep my Yahoo account mostly because I honestly don't know who I've given it to, or which web sites I registered it with. I do hate the fact that Yahoo wants to charge extra for POP mail access, forcing me to access my email via their web site rather than an email client.

But as you said, I figure it's just a matter of time before they finally cave and sell the company.

Even more examples of Yahoo's growing incompetence

About 24 hours BEFORE this problem with my mail server being blacklisted by Yahoo, I had actually contacted them for a completely different reason. This web site (GIDForums) was being bombarded by one of their robots: YahooYSMcm. I couldn't understand what this robot was supposed to be doing and frankly, I don't care. So I wrote to them...

Quote:
Can somebody explain why my web site (www.gidforums.com) is being
crawled by this IP address: 67.195.37.173? The user agent for this
robot is [Mozilla/5.0 (YahooYSMcm/3.0.0; http://help.yahoo.com)].

How can I make it stop requesting pages off my web site(s)? I have
already added "YahooYSMcm" to my robots.txt file but the
requests by this robot keep coming.

Having no other choice, I have blocked the IP address from accessing my
web server altogether today but I would really like to know why I have
to resort to such drastic measures.

I look forward to your reply.

Thank you.

One day later, they replied:

Notice that they promise to forward my feedback to the appropriate department. I wait another 24 hours or so... and they reply again:

Good, I thought. I will just leave it to them to solve this problem then, I thought. Surely I am not telling them something they don't already know, I thought. Well, not quite... because yet another 24 hours later, I find this (3rd reply) in my inbox:

Yes, of course, it is all MY fault! Why shouldn't I already know that YahooYSMcm is actually YahooSeeker in disguise. What was I thinking?
