Multithreading to get a digital clock

I am working on getting a digital lock to run in my program while the user is still doing some things ( input - output )

I am working with windows using VC++ 2008.

I have been reading into multithreading, but I have yet to find an example close to whar I am looking for. I would like an example of this if possible or something close to it.

Regards,
Gene Saika
