I'm fairly new at running remote desktop through our local network.

So far what i understand is that (for the built in windows program) that it is only available with xp professional. now I found out that I can remote form a XP home to a XP pro but not the other way around... or XP home to Home because i get this error:

This computer cant connect to the remote computer.

Try connecting again. if the problem continues, contact the owner of the remote computer or the network administrator.

Any ideas around this... I've tried some of the remote destop programs but i dont know what really works out there.

AFAIK, that is one of the "perks" of XP Pro that encourages people to spend the big bucks for it. There are several 3rd party apps that give comparable, or better, solutions like PCAnywhere.

It may be possible for you to use telnet or ssh to remotely connect, but I don't know how well, if at all, XP Home supports them.
