Is there not a problem to copy a disk if both cd's are on the same IDE?
I understand the the channel will only run as fast as the slowest ATA controller on it too.

my thought was;
IDE1
40 OS
CDRW/DVD

IDE2
80 store
cdr

I don't think so, I have my PC's at home setup this way and my CDRW is the slave drive on the second IDE as I don't use it for anything but copying. This setup has never hurt any of my copies. But I don't suggest that if your coping to a CD that you do anything else with the computer. Now to be honest I don't do a lot of coping from CD's so if you do I may suggest that you setup as follows:

IDE 1
40GB - OS
52X CD

IDE 2
80 GB - Storage
CDRW

I don't see anything wrong with that setup.

I'll try that first.

I've got pretty much the same setup as pcxgamer. I prefer keeping the slower drives (CDs) on their own channel.
