I am just wondering what takes to make a site like co.cc. When you sign up with them, you get a subdomain like yourname.co.cc

How are they able to provide DNS service for subdomains?

this is easy to do it, they just use wilcard dns, of course you need to understand how dns works.

we have a customer that uses a similar service and the work was all done over wilcard dns

register a .cc domain name, eg. bb.cc, host a dns server, eg. bind, then offer three level subdomain name, aa.bb.cc
