Google PR Optimization

Someone stated that
Quote:
The only thing that matters to Google is lots of on content back links.

Is this true?

Quote:
Google has centered their entire algo around Page Rank - which is based upon back links. The Florida update did a lot to remove a bunch of SE SPAM (is there really such a thing?), but a new crop has poped up.

Just look at competitive money phrases and then check backlinks. You will *never* be in the top 10 with on site optimization. But, you can rank a blank page with back links. Look up blog bombing on Google or your favorite search engine.

Also, look at a the sites from the members of OutFront. Most of their sites would be dead in the water without all the OutFront back links. Here is the reason why relying on freeloading listings is bad business: If Google had an algo update that diminished the importance of forum sites anyone relying on the PR gained from OF links would be nuked.

Don't think that has not crossed the mind of the folks at G. Some forums do not allow links in your signatures or in the post. This saves their outgoing PR power for those who pay... You can purchase a link, they place it on hundreds of pages and *poof* > a lot of PR power to a few sites...

Curious to know everyone's opinions on the subject- I myself don't know exactly.

I would say,

The only thing that matters to Google is lots of on content AND back links.

Content is important, as are backlinks and PR - but as you see from here at GidForums, they are just part of the Google secret recipie. My goal is to work on both my 'on page' and 'off page' variables at about equal levels.

So basically, the meta tags do nothing for Google's PR?

Bobby, it may appear to be so right now but who knows what Google might do in the future?

SEO your web pages just for Google is not a very smart thing to do in my opinion. So, even if it may seem like googlebot is completely ignoring meta tags (now), some other bots may have some use for them.

If your website already has them, do NOT remove them; if you're building your web pages tomorrow and you find you have a spare moment or two, it's worth thinking about inserting the description and keywords meta tags at least.

If however, like this forum, you're setting up a script and find that these tags are not easily modified via the script, then don't bother.

I consider meta tags to be part of basic html design...but they aren't worth losing sleep over or abusing.

Pr Refer's according to the quality of Backlinks. And by the way it's always a godd idea to include a metatags and description on our pages because who know's the algo... and i think it will be helpful for smaller search engines out there too ...

My link section consists of 3 pages. The PR of first page is 5, But other pages have only zero. All these pages contain only links of other sites and also links to other pages of this section. How can I arise the PR-level of those pages?

It's hard to say without actually looking at the pages... and please try to start a new thread to discuss something specific to your site.
