What is the definition of "Level 3" and "VIP"?

I only notice terms like Junior Member, Senior Member etc. next to the avatars.

Member Level promotions are based on 3 things basically:

I only notice terms like Junior Member, Senior Member etc. next to the avatars.
Level 3
  • Your total Reputation Points to-date. Everytime you post a message to the forums, other members or even team members may 'vote' for or against, the overall value of the message in your posts and replies. This is the single, most important value that determines your eligibility to be promoted to the next level in every situation.
  • Your total Post Counts to-date. This is only important for the first few levels of promotions. In other words, the more you post, the better the chances of being promoted in the beginning.
  • Date Joined. This is currently not taken into consideration at all, although this may easily change in the future.

Okay, that's clear enough. But I still don't know how to tell when I get there! Are those the green dots next to the number of posts (i.e., Level 3 = 3 dots)? And what about VIP? Do I have to know the secret handshake?

Hover over your name and it will tell you what level you are (You're a level 3). In addition, the number of arrows under your name indicate your level as well.

VIP? This is probably a bit more subjective. I would guess what J is looking for here is quality of posts, etc.

I can understand your confusion... sometimes I need feedback like this to understand what to insert inside the FAQ.

OK getting back on topic:

Maybe it's time to fix the Member Titles (below the username) - so instead of New, Junior, Regular or Senior Member, it should just be Member Level 1, 2, 3 or 4. I will try to do that in the next hour or so (until we figure out some other, more appropriate titles for the long term).

It may also interest you to know that if you hover your mouse over your username, it should indicate the current Level of your Membership.

The green dots indicate your REP (reputation); it is not an indicator of your promotions or membership levels. I have plans to simply show a member's reputation points instead of using buttons (like it is now). At least it will be easier to gauge one's REP at a glance.

About VIPs; VIPs are members who buy advertisements on this site. At the moment we have 2 VIPs: www.rackslash.com, and www.rydium.com.

I hope that answers some of your questions.

Bobby & dsmith, thank you for making an effort to explain all that for me earlier

On second thoughts I have decided against resetting the Member Titles. The way I have it set up is like this : the member titles change based ONLY on a member's post count.

The logic, at least for me, is that this forum is open to anyone and everyone; some of our members may prefer to 'chat', not really saying anything 'deep'. So these members should also be recognised in some small way. The Member Titles should take care of that... i.e. the more you post the more you move up with your Member Titles.

So it's entirely possible for a member to have the title "Senior Member" and yet, remaining at Member: Level 2!

Paradoxic has a little shameless behaviour in the past
I did a search in the forum for the word "advertise" in titles of the forum and came up with no luck to my question: "What are your rates to advertise on GIDForums?"

please email me at webmaster[at]hostingserenity[dot]com please
