Hardware IssuesHi everyone
I've got a couple questions about my Video Card Basically I have a Compaq Desktop Pro EN its 600mhz , 256 RAM , etc and I just installed Windows 2000 Professional on it. Now my problem is I cannot seem to find out what type of video card I have or if its Onboard or not? I found a thing at the back of my computer with 3 white slots and i've been told that its PCI Video card but if it is I CANNOT find the model number anywhere I don't even know what to look for or how long it sould be? Please Helps Me :-( To Sum It up: 1. I need to find out if my Video card is Onboard or not. 2. I need to find out the Model number of the card. 3. Once I have the model number then what? Great News I found a pic of my PC on the net. www.247techcorp.com ( Maybe it can help in some way? ) |

Easiest way would be to pop it open.
But let's see, so its a PIII-600? Might be AGP actually...ATI 3D Rage or it could be onboard. Is your video port (where your monitor cable goes) on a an external slot or integrated on the back? |

Use this for reference, even though the Compaqs have different motherboards and additional sub-boards.
http://www.mysuperpc.com/computer_as...ard_agp_cr.jpg If there is a video card on the slot marked with the blue rectangle or a card on one of the white slots to its left, then you have regular video. Or else its onboard. Also check this .pdf for more info about your model; http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/su...l&doctype=file Or this search at HP/Compaq; http://search.hp.com/gwuseng/query.h...skpro+EN+video |

Well I just checked and there is no video card in that blue slot your talking about. I also have nothing in the white slots either. So this means its Onboard?

Yes. Check the pdf to see what types of video chipsets they had onboard.

I don't really understand that guide since the desktop being shown is different from mine and I could not find any information on exactly what video card it was. I was wondering if you knew how I could find out myself I have the case open right beside me I was wondering if you could tell me where to look for the model number? ( Possibly using a picture of a motherboard with where I should be looking circled? )

Your computer's model number should be at the back. If you look around on the motherboard, see if there is graphics chipset - it could have Cirrus, ATI, or a NVdia brand on it.
I should have asked this earlier but do you have any operating system installed on this computer right now? You could check its settings or download a program called AIDA32 (do a google search) and it will tell you just about everything you wanna know about your system. |

No you don't understand lol I said I don't know alot about the inside of a computer so I don't even know what a graphics chipset looks like. I also said I need the video card model number not my computers. and as for an OS installed my first post states that I just installed Windows 2000 and thats "why" I need to find the drivers / model numbers.
* PS * Please talk simple I barely know anything about the inside of a computer. [ EDIT ] - Im not sure if this is my computers model number whatever but here it is. CT: 5363C0R4HJL90C CPS-90A REV.A3 Something else I saw on the inside was Compaq Product Of China Series PDP-115 Part NO: 165997-001 |

Hi switch.
I think that what Div is getting at is do you have a "working" operating system on your computer? If it is working then you should have video card should be working, right? Are you looking to upgrade your driver for the video? Windows 2000 has really good driver detection and I doubt that it didn't find your video card on install. Assuming you can boot into windows, If you right click on the "My Computer" Icon you should get an option to look at the properties and from there look at the device manager. This will tell you exactly what driver your video card is using currently. Hope this helps a bit. |
