I wouldn't upgrade the bios unless you are very sure of what you're doing. Either way, I doubt it would add new functionality of that magnitude.

Make sure your chipset drivers are upto date. Compare the device manager version to:

5600FX w/53.03

I've had this problem for a while too. There is no fix for it, I have read many forums and tried EVERYTHING. The only fix is get rid of it for an ATI card, that's what I did and no more problems.

Nvidia won't even acknowledge a problem so what's the use in trying to fix yourself. All the people having this glitch can't be wrong!
I have posted in a lot of forums to no avail and I have nice new/clean system.

I think Nvidia has 'over-OEMed' their product...too many manufactuers making these cards, who knows what type of quality control they have. If this forum is any indication, they seem to be riddled with problems.

maybe i have to disable fast write in agp, and how shall i do it?
anyway, with new drivers, black screen frequensy went down so i think i will ignore that problem for now. by the way can u suggest me an ATI card that has the same features and cost like my fx 5600 256 mega.
i don't need the best card couse i don't have money for that, just a good card WITH OUT BLACK SCREEN PROBLEMS and the same graphic accelerator like in fx 5600...

You can do this in the bios there should be a option there.

The ATI 9600 is about the same as the 5600 may even cost less although the ATI only has 128 MB of ram I think.

but there is no such an option in my bios...
i have only
standard cmos features: nothing in there related to the subject
advanced bios features: first boot device, second, third, password check
integrated peripherals: lots of things about usb pci but not about agp or fast writes
pnp/pci cofigurations: (pci1 pci2 pci3 pci4 [auto])
pc health status: not related
frequency/voltage control: not related
load fail safe, load optimazed deafults, set passwords, save and exit and save with out exit
so....where can i disable fast writes there?

Fx5600

I also have these same problems with the computer locking up and screen going black. I've been writing to nVidia, but they treat me like I'm the only person on the planet that's having a problem. The only way this is going to get taken care of is if we ALL write to them.

Forget support (no such thing) - send emails to:

Dwight Diercks
VP of Software Engineering at nVidia
dwight@nvidia.com

Only then was I able to get any kind of reply from nVidia.

TAKE IT TO THE TOP!
