Windows Vista 64-bit problemsHey. I've been having a lot of problems with my computer lateley and I figured I'd run them by you to see if you could help me out.
I'm currently running; Custom Build (at a shop) Vista 64-bit home premium 4gb RAM DDR2 (800Mhz) Asus P5Q-E mother board seagate 500gb HDD 2.66 Ghz quad core intel CPU Radeon HD4870 I've been trying to get my computer going for a few weeks now and I'm kind of frustrated. I'm frequently running into bluescreens and random erros. I brought it in to the shop I brought it from (a relatively reputable one that I've heard good things about) and they said they would have it fixed in 3-5 buisness days. After 8 I got frustrated and told them I wanted it fixed. They never found the problem with the computer and instead installed new ram with a lower clock (1200Mhz -->800Mhz) which they told me hade made the system "rock solid". I received the computer and after receiving many more errors realized it wasn't. I usually run into errors that upon researching them are called "RAM" errors but the old computer was getting the same ones and its ram passed memtest. I could re-run it on this one and post the logs if you want but I will be gone this weekend so it would be a bit before I could. The errors I usually encounter are IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL_TOO , PAGE_ERROR_IN_UNPAGED_AREA and several others. I have to go now so I will come back on tonight and post more info. Thank you for any help. EDIT: I usually run into errors while gaming but the system is well capable of handling CS:S and WoW |

Re: Windows vista 64-bit problemsSorry for not being very clear in the last post(and for this double post ;P). I was in a bit of a hurry. Just to clarify : I sent it back to the shop and they replaced all the internals and were still running into problems so they lowered the clock on the ram. I also received the computer back without the latest version of the bios or the drivers for my video card installed so I flashed the Mother Board to the latest version and installed the newest drivers for the card. I'm running into problems usually when gaming (though sometimes when browsing the internet) and on games that the computer should be able to handle. I also usually talk on ventrilo while playing so I don't know if that could be a problem. The part that is making it really hard to troubleshoot, is that regularly the computer will run for 5+ hours without a problem only to crash 4-5 times in a row.

Re: Windows Vista 64-bit problemsI meant to ask if the BIOS upgrade you did, was it the 0704 BIOS Version? I also need to know if you can give me the make of your memory?

Re: Windows Vista 64-bit problemsHey! Thanks for replying. I'll get back to you on those things ASAP but I am away for the weekend (and away from my computer) so the soonest I'll could reply would be monday. Just so you know I continued fiddling around and I received an error saying that I needed to run chkdsk because the .exe of google chrome "appears to be corrupted". After running chkdsk and uninstalling and then re-installing chrome the number of crashes has gone down drastically to maybe 1-4 a night(5-6ish hours)

Re: Windows Vista 64-bit problemsI just got back so I'll do my best. First off I crashed moments ago and received a new error SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION. Here is the microsoft windows error report.
Problem signature: Problem Event Name: BlueScreen OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.768.3 Locale ID: 1033 Additional information about the problem: BCCode: 3b BCP1: 00000000C0000005 BCP2: FFFFF80001C75550 BCP3: FFFFFA60032C60F0 BCP4: 0000000000000000 OS Version: 6_0_6001 Service Pack: 1_0 Product: 768_1 Files that help describe the problem: C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini092908-02.dmp C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-39437-0.sysdata.xml C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Temp\WERC541.tmp.versi on.txt I am right now running BIOS version 1306 which was the most recent update I could find on ASUS' site for my motherboard. The make of my memory is Apacer PC6400 and its in 2x2gb modules. I can't remember how to open the windows logger so i'll have to make another post about that one. Thank you very much once again. |

Re: Windows Vista 64-bit problemsOK I will begin researching this and see if I can help, Although I had a question. From my research so far and just in general what I know this sound a lot like bad memory, what I needed to know is when you took the computer back to the builders did they replace the memory or did they just underclock it?

Re: Windows Vista 64-bit problemsThey replaced it with a slower clock memory while they were trying to make it more stable. Originally it had OCZ 1200Mhz RAM in it but it was even more unstable with that.
EDIT: Just go t a new Error while editing this post. DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL_TOO. It listed ataport.sys as one of the files. Here is the log that popped up on reboot. Problem signature: Problem Event Name: BlueScreen OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.768.3 Locale ID: 1033 Additional information about the problem: BCCode: d1 BCP1: FFFFFA7FF2BD876C BCP2: 0000000000000002 BCP3: 0000000000000000 BCP4: FFFFFA60009BDBBD OS Version: 6_0_6001 Service Pack: 1_0 Product: 768_1 Files that help describe the problem: C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini093008-02.dmp C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-40560-0.sysdata.xml C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Temp\WERFF35.tmp.versi on.txt Just so you know on boot up I received a message saying that Catalyst Control center had stopped working and was closed and it was just removed from the tray. |

Re: Windows Vista 64-bit problemsOK we will begin to troubleshoot this, I am sorry that I can't just say that this is the problem and here is how you fix it. I needed to know if you have tried booting into safe mode and see if you still get errors?
I also need some of the files from this location C:\Windows\Minidump\ they will be the .dmp file. I also need to have you check through the windows logs to see if there is any information there. I don't have Vista 64 but the way you do this in my version is goto Control panel, on the left hand side switch to Classic View then go to Administrative Tools and then it will be the Event Viewer. __________________

Re: Windows Vista 64-bit problemsWhen I was re-installing the video drivers I booted into safe mode to install and download them and I was unable to install it(I couldn't access my current version) so I booted in regular mode and installed it. It has not ever crashed in safe mode though. Also... Just an FYI but I do have Express gate installed and sometimes after some of the bluescreens it will not load express gate and will say that it is "in error or not installed".
