Runtime Error 21

This message pops up twice every time I boot my computer now: Runtime error 21 at 014D249D. That was last night, now tonight, it's popping up: Runtime Error 21 at 01DC49D2.

It occurred completely randomly. My computer was good last night and not tonight. I ran CCleaner and a few virus scans and haven't been able to get rid of it. I updated my video card drivers and have established that neither of my CD-roms or floppy drive is causing the problem I believe it has something to do with my video card, because the graphics in a game have changed from what they were before and I'm getting much more lag on-screen when there is heavy visual stimulus and action. I've been running a GeForce FX 5500 for two years without this occurring, though it is not the onboard video card, which is disabled.

Honestly, there was nothing changed on my computer. I went to bed one night without a problem and woke up the next day with it.

It pops up the two boxes at startup and windows is completely frozen until I close the top one. I can then use my computer normally with the second error box present. If I click the second box, Explorer reboots and both boxes reappear. I system restored to a week prior to no avail. I ran selective startup with only essential items without it working. I am out of ideas and I haven't been able to google anything pertaining to my specific error. I found other runtime error 21's, but they were followed by 004 or something else.

A few lists I've seen of common windows runtime errors don't even list 21.

So in conclusion, I have no idea what is wrong or how to fix it. Please help. It doesn't come up when I try to open any program, just when Windows boots.

Thanks.

You didn't mention what operating system you are using. 98? XP? Vista? What?

If it's XP, maybe the Event Viewer can tell you something:
  • Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  • Double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Event Viewer.
  • For information about using Event Viewer, on the Action menu, click Help.

If it's not XP, the above may or may not work (I have no way of testing anything else. Maybe someone else can offer some suggestions if you give more information.)

Regards,

Dave

Have you been able to fix this problem yet?
