DVD player playing at 3/4 speed

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 with a Sony CD/DVD RW burner. Just recently when I played a DVD, it played it at 3/4 speed and the sound is "scratchy" but it doesn't skip. Same thing happens when I played an audio CD. When I burn a data disc, it burns it at 1/8 the speed.

I've reinstalled the driver and cleaned the drive with a cleaner. That didn't do anything. I've also reinstalled the driver. Nothing either. I don't remember dropping my laptop or anything else traumatic. I did install the VLC media player shortly before this happened, but then took it off after all this started.

Any ideas as to what the problem is? Thanks.
