Apache2 help etc...I am using SuSE Linux 9.0 and I am interested in setting up a intranet on my home LAN. I have no idea were to start, I have Apache2 up, I did localhost and got the Apache test page and thats it; I don't know what else to do. I'm doing this just to get familiar with Apache and other various Linux stuff. I have Samba setup, I feel pretty confident using Linux now; but I don't no much about Apache and DNS. I'm familiar with other various computer stuff (building P.C.'s, networking, O.S.'s, Cisco etc...) but this is really new to me. I would apreciate any help. I have a Linksys Wireless Cable/DSL Router.

Hi clinux. I like your name if it means what I think it means, C & Linux, two of my favorite things!
Anyway, I have a small office where we are running apache2 and Linux. This isn't my expertise, but I may be able to help a little. It sounds like you have apache working and just want to be able to serve web pages to your intranet and not to the whole world. Is that correct? If so, it sounds like this is really just a DNS problem. How are your IP addresses getting assigned right now? Is your router doing this? Can you go to a different machine that you have and type in the ip address of your SUSE box on the internet browser and get it to pull up? I would be glad to help in any way that I can if you can provide more information. |
