ABIT IC& MAX 3 and GEFORCE 5600 FX

I can only boot up in 4 bit color...ugh. All the latest BIOS and drivers for the video card. Here is what it says in device manager:

This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)

If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

Here is the system:

Intel P4 2.8 TH 800MHz FSB
1 GB RAM
Abit IC7 MAX 3 Motherboard
PixelView GeForce 5600 FX XT w/256 MB RAM running at 8x
A generic network card.

I've done all kinds of reinstalling to no avail.

Any thoughts?

Hmmm, resource conflict. Are there any traces of your old video card on the system. Try Start, Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, Display Adapters....see what is in there. If your old card is listed in there, then uninstall it.

If not, try uninstalling the GForce card, and reboot. Windows may reallocate it better resources.

If that doesn't work, you've got a strange resource conflict. Try going into the resources tab (working from memory here) and take note of what emeory addresses it's trying to use, what IRQs (not too important, but anyway) and anything else. Compare these figures with the resources for the other components of your system, to work out what clashes with it.

Depending on what version of Windows you're using, it should tell you. I've seen this error before, some IO clash with the ACPI BIOS on the motherboard. Here's more advice: www.techsupportforum.com

HAve you found a solution? I have the same one!

I have the same chip with the IC7G board and the FX5600 nvidia card. Did you ever find a solution?

I would really appreciate any help you can give me at fsbailey@hotmail.com.
