Not burning fast enoughI recently purchased a liteon CDRW (LTR-52327S). This burner is advertised as having a 52X write speed, which leads me believe I should be able to burn a complete CD in about 2:30. However, my burn times seem to be a lot slower then this. I can burn an entire CD in about 10 min.
I'm using Nero express (the latest version I can't recall the build #, I think 6.0). WHen I start and end Nero the program says I have burned successfully at 52X speed. I've tried thigns such as diasbling the SMART-Burn without any performance increases. I was just wondering if there was anything I could do to alleviate this problem or if a burn time of 10:00 is normal for a 52X writer. My setup is as follows: Windows XP pro 2.6 GhZ P4 1 GB DDRAM 80 GB HD (7200 RPM) Thanks in advance, Chad |

Have you tried using different media?

Yes, although admittedly i've just used fairly cheap brands (different Wal-Mart types that i grabbed from friends). While some discs may only be rated for 48X burning I would still think I would achieve a faster burn time. Do you think searching for some higher quality media may help? |

I haven't used Nero in a while, but Easy-CD tells you the speed (in somewhat real-time) during the burn - does Nero do the same?
I wouldn't go out and buy a bunch of CDRs unless you need them. I don't think they are as different as they were back in the day. Apart from that, shut off things like your firewall and anti-virus software. Also don't use any other apps while Nero does its thing. |

Yes, Nero tells me the real-time speed during the burn. For a full CD I'm always over 9:30. I've used the task manager and the msconfig. programs to make sure nothing is running except Nero. I guess I'll give some new media a shot unless anyone had a different solution.... |

Hardware wise, what type of a m/b - chipset combo do you have?
You could switch to a dedicated ide channel for the CDR drive, ie, not sharing it with your hard drive. I run my CDRs on IDE 3 and 4. |

Yeah, you were on the right track. What had happened was that (Stupidly enough), the drive was set in PIO mode. It took me a while to get it to go into DMA mode; I tried removing drives and such then re-booting which didn't work, the drive was always re-installed in PIO mode. EVentually I solved the solution by going into the BIOS and setting the drive to "auto", which solved eveything. I just burned 693 MB in 2:34. SWeet deal!. Anyways, thanks immensly for your help I'll be returning to this website often. Chad |
