I'm here in desperation - please helpFirst of all, cards on the table...I have no interest in using Visual c++ and probably wouldn't understand it if I tried. If you are still reading this, I'm asking for help to solve a problem that has been with me now for a couple of weeks. I've been just about everywhere, and searched endlessly and finally ended up here, where hopefully the experts can help.
Whilst using certain programs, I suddenly get a window pop up talking about Microsoft Visual C++ debugging, followed closely by another that reports a problem and a need to close the program. I'm attaching a screen grab to illustrate the problem. My question is, do I need this program? If so, how can I stop this happening? If not, am I safe to uninstall it? I've had various suggestions from so-called experts elsewhere, each offering diametrically opposing opinions. So, in desperation, I've arrived here. Can anyone help me...please?? |

I'm not a security expert, but you might consider the following: 1. Uninstall Azureus. 2. Run several antivirus programs. As many as you can. 3. Run other anti-malware (adware, spyware) programs to try to clean up spambots and other malicious software that inhabits the nefarious world of video sharing/file sharing networks. Regards, Dave |

Re: I'm here in desperation - please helpWhat other programs are causing problems? Maybe there's a commonality between them that will lead to an answer.

Re: I'm here in desperation - please helpTo be honest, I've got past all of that. I've scanned, scanned and scanned again. I've spent weeks trying to sort this and am now of the opinion that, if I don't need it, I want to get rid! Some people say I do need it, others say I don't. Someone told me that it is monitoring certain programs and reporting minimal problems. Then others tell me it's part of WIndows. So is it necessary? I've no idea what it does - other than drive me crazy. Can someone explain? Can I switch it off or kill it completely?

Huh? Your attachment shows that the crash occurred when Azureus.exe was executing. If your friends have told you that Azureus.exe is "part of Windows," or anything else that makes you think that it is, somehow, "necessary" then you need some new friends. It's a bittorrent client (a file-sharing application). In other words, millions and millions (maybe more) of Windows users don't have Azureus.exe installed on their systems. Lots of people use it (not me), and I don't think that Azureus.exe itself is considered particularly problematic (obviously, since I don't use it, I can't judge this), but in fact anything can call itself anything. So who knows what is actually happening. Bottom line: If you have an application running on your system and you didn't install the application, then you have to ask yourself how it got there. No one else can answer that question for you. Or: were you talking about uninstalling Visual C++? If you don't need it for program development, then uninstall it. It is not "part of Windows" either. What am I missing here? There must be more to it than I perceive. Regards, Dave |
