Read Guidelines Before You Can Post New Thread

I have notived in vary many instances that inside the Websites Reviewed forum that people just sign up one post to get a review, but do not even take the time to post their review in a good fashion. Usually it is just titled Look, and then says, review my site: something.com.

I think what would really stop this problem is if you made it so users have to visit the Before you post - Web Reviews guidelines URL in order to post a new thread. They are able to reply, just not able to start a new thread.

Figured it would be a good way to lose spammers, plus, make it easy to review the site since not many people post their review in a nice format at all. Im not saying they have to follow the guidelines 100% but they need to at least understand that they should make sure what we need to know they want reviewed. There are too many choices about what to review, if they could be more specific I think it would help out a lot more.

Just a suggestion....

I don't know about the rest of the team but I have thought about it a lot.

I still haven't found a single idea to minimise the abuse that can happen in the Websites Reviewed forum without making things overly complicated.

Rob tried to add some guidelines but obviously that doesn't get the respect it deserves either.

Should we place place restrictions on the Websites Reviewed forum too? Just like the ones in place for the Webmaster / Web Hosting Ads and Offers forums? I am not convinced that that's a good idea...

Can you fill me in on the restrictions for the Webmaster / Web Hosting Ads and Offers forums? Is it having to have the 5 posts before you may post?

Websites Reviewed should just have the restriction that you need to goto the Before you post - Web Reviews guidelines URL. If that does not work, then maybe implement the restriction with a 5 limit post before you can start a New Thread. Being able to post a reply should be allowed. I think that this should only be used IF what I suggested in my first post does not solve the problem.

Some people might think that we lose a user to having restrictions like this, but think about what we would gain if the had a user who makes one post without ever expecting to come back, even to just see if there was a reply.

Yes, that is correct ...(at the moment, it's a 5 post min.). Details are in the announcements for the respective forums.

There will be a comprehensive About Promotions FAQ and 'added benefits' for each USERGROUP in the FAQ (where else?) as soon as I have solved this USERGROUP promotion issue that was mentioned in a previous thread.
