GameMode Full Screen Linux

I am trying to make a OpenGL Program that enters game mode. I am using C++ and GLUT on Linux (Ubuntu, Gnome).

I have made a program that enters gamemode, changing the screen to the set resolution before on windows, but I cannot seem to make it work on Linux. The program creates a blank canvas the size I specified glutGameModeString, and is in games mode as there is a performance increase, and the mouse is bound to the area, however the sceen resolution is not changed.

Thanks
