Total Newbie needs help

Hey guys, forst off great forum, second, i really need some help. Basically, im a part time, web designer, usually when i do sites i use a hoster etc. this time i was gonna create a quick site for family to access from the internet and decided to host it myself on my system. i registered my domain with yahoo, downloaded apache for windows, set it up and started the server. this is pretty much where im stuck. ive read every tutorial out there, everything and can not figure out what to do. ill try to give as much info as i can and just ask if you need more. im behind a router which is on my cable line. i plan on setting up dyndns.org later but for now id just like to get it to see my temp ip address. for my domain registrar i changed the servers to my home ip address, not the 192.xxxxx my actual home ip. thats where im stuck. i assume, i need to get the router talking to apche but i have no clue. i really need someone who can walk me through it. by the way, is it possible to see the website from the computer thats hosting it?

Hi, you need to make sure your router port is open so that web traffic can get through. That would be port 80. What kind of router do you have? You might wanna try something like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1 to access your router's setup page so you can configure your port settings. And yes it is possible to to view your webpage from the computer that is hosting it. Just alternate click on your index.html page and open with your web browser (i.e. IE Explorer or Firefox) You can also type in the address of your server just like you would any webpage in your browser. "http://yourservername.org"

Hope this helps
