My friend just purchased an imported DVD HDD player. I want to know how it differs from a simple DVD player? Is DVD HDD player any where related to DVD RAM or DVD R/W?

Is it a combo DVD recorder and hard drive, i.e. essentially a DVD recording Tivo? That's the only sort of reference I can find on the 'net.

There's a big difference between that and a normal DVD player or DVD-RAM. DVD-RAM acts like a hard drive except it's quite a bit slower and holds a lot less per disc. And you know what a normal DVD player does.

So without more details, it's hard to say exactly what's special about it.
