How to buttonize

Hello,
I am looking for software to create nice 'eye candy' style buttons for use on my website. I would like some shine plus shadow, a bit like

Instead, I would like to have text, and a rectangular shape with rounded corners.
Suggestions?

I ended up using Gimp and installed an additional package of gradients of the web 2.0 type.
