Chaintech GeForce FX 5600xt Problems

I bought this card in mid december and have been fighting with it ever since.

After getting everything installed and set up i tried to start up a game.(Halo)

The opening sequences were fine but as soon as the first selection screen loaded the screen went all messed up. There were lines and colors all over the place. Every other game i tried had exactly the same problems.

I then updated all motherboard drivers, bios, videocard drivers and any other drivers i thought might even be related.

This did not fix anything.

I then tried the dxdiagnostic tool. When i test direct3d it starts with direct3d7 and the box appears but it is all blurry and messed up similar to game problems. Dxdiag then tests direct3d8 and 9 which look fine.

I then downloaded directx diagnostic drivers and saved the output on the previous test. Direct3d7 definitely has alot more crap spewed out but i have no idea what any of it means.

I am running a
P4 2.6 GHz
512 DDR Ram
Windows XP
Asus P4SDX(Updated Everything)

Any help would be greatly appreciated as i am very frustrated. I also can provide that output file if it will be of any help.

Thanks

Bryan

I have the exact problem. What type of airflow are you getting through your case? Well I was just wondering if you see white dots around the characters and a whole bunch of misplaced pixels.

Yes that sounds exactly like the same problem.

Since I have been fighting with the card i have had the whole side of my case off so i dont think airflow is a problem.

What are your system, CPU, and Video Card Temperatures?

cpu = 46c/114f
motherboard = 28c/82f

doesnt give me a reading on the video card, is there a program or anything i can get to test it?

Also, it reads that the +12 v is about 11.4 and the 3.3v is always down near near 3 volts.

I am using the asus utility for these measurements. I have read other posts were too low of voltages is bad but it does not give me any warnings for these levels and i am using a 400W power supply.

Try this right click on the desktop -> Properties -> settings then click on advanced then click GeForce FX the properties for the FX will come up with a side bar there should be a temperature settings on the side bar.

There is no temperature option, not sure if the board has a sensor or not.

It sounds like I too have the same problem you guys are. Only mine is PNY Nvidia Geforce FX 5600 256MB. I am a certified pc technician and I have tried every possible thing that I can think of or find on the net to fix my problem.

It happens on most games that i try to play. When i get into a game's main screen and/or playing it, at some point my screen would hang for 10-20 seconds and when it came back there were little screwy boxes all over the screen. Games such as 'Warcraft 3', 'Simpsons Hit and Run'. Ive played 'Americas Army' for a few months now and rarely does it screw up on that game but it will eventually.

I have 2 screenshots that I would like you all to see, just to make sure it is what you guys are seeing as well. 1 from 'Warcraft 3' and 1 from 'Americas Army'.

if anyone has a solution to this problem, it is greatly appreciated if you could share it with us.

Bad news I think, I have a BFG Geforce FX 5600 I had a PNY 5600 before my BFG I was having the same problem after a lot of searching and asking question I finally found that it was the card itself. I contacted PNY and was told that they were having problems with the 5600. Anyways I had to replace mine. But on the bright side my BFG I've never had any problems with it.

yeah getting a replacement seems like my only option as of now.

so did you replace the PNY with the same PNY? or did they not even bother replacing it with the same one? you just kept the problemed PNY and bought a new one? I would think they would at least send you an upgrade from the PNY that you had to see if it worked or not.
