I can't really tell if this is going to help (don't have XP) but maybe Apache2 is still running.
Ctrl + Alt + Delete and check if it's still there or there is something wrong with httpd.conf but most times that shouldn't be the problem try searching for 0.0.0.0 in httpd.conf and if found, change it to something else e.g. 127.0.0.1 or your computers IP address |

Well, the easy way is good, but what if you already have php and sql installed? I get the same error leacoco gets, but Im running NT server, and I already have php, perl, and sql installed. All I need to get up and running is Apache. Ive also updated the conf file with my correct IP address that my website is running off of.

I know the answer!!!I just had the same problem and was able to FINALLy solved it after a whole night of stress..
The solution is simple, just disable any other WWW server and firewall you have. For me, I had IIS admin service running. To disable this, go to control panel, administrative tools, services, and look for iis service. after that just right click and stop the service =). Then install the apache again, it should work. |

Sounds like you have something else running on port 80
check 127.0.0.1 and it should pull up any webserver running on your local machine. |

Try start up menuI had similar problem it was Apache was always on from startup so when deleting or overwriting with new package XP reloaded old apache settings at startup.
If this does not work go to Apache2 home page there is a warning about upgrading from Apache. Junkked Last edited by JUNK KED : 26-Sep-2004 at 21:44.

I had this problem too. The only way I fixed was to do an entire system restore to get rid of all my apache files, then download it again.
