using smilies in web pages is also something i do occasionally but my opinion is - 'less is more'!

iow, 1 smilie on 1 web page is more 'interesting' then a whole lot in one paragraph...

The smilies are part of content, and they are actually avatars of the people who run the site.

well, shouldn't each smilie/avatar have an 'alt' attribute then?
